Looking forward to Sunday

(New Door... Thanks Kendel)

Today was a good day of work on the island.  Because of the delay in getting multiple jobs going at the same time, we were able to get a little more help today.  It looks like we will be able to finish the job up on Monday.  That is good news because we finally have approval to start two more jobs on Monday in the same area.  It looks like my postcard view will remain. :)  Here are a few more pictures from our day of work.

The weekends are pretty low key in American Samoa.  Most families spend the day outside playing volleyball or their version of cricket.  It was also the first time I saw people swimming in the bay.  Most buses stop running on the weekends and most of the stores are closed.  We also had to ask permission from the homeowner to work on Saturday.  We are glad he gave us permission because we did not want to waste a day of our limited time here.

I am really looking forward to Sunday.  Part of the responsibility of a pastor or a chaplain on this disaster call is to preach at a local church on Sunday.  We have one pastor and one chaplain on our team, so they will be preaching at different churches.  I have enjoyed getting to know a brother named Marvin on our team and he will be preaching this Sunday.  I am excited about going with him to where he will be giving the message.  It is a Korean Baptist Church, so I am very interested about how a Korean church worships in American Samoa.  I can't wait to experience a new style of worship.

Being that Sunday and it we are taking the day off, we are hoping to be able to go sight seeing a bit.  There is a call for a good amount of rain, so we will see how much we will be able to see.  If we are able to, I will be uploading the pictures.

May all of you have a great day of worshiping the Lord.  Until next time.....

Blessings...... Billy

  1. Nice pictures Billy, I will be anxiously waiting to hear about your experiences in the church on Sunday. In the background of one of the pictures above is a row of tents. Do they have a type of tent city for the people that lost home during the Tsunami?

  2. Good Morning Carol.... In regards to the tents, they were given to the people by FEMA. They are actually setup on the land of the homeowner who lost their home. The two in the picture are actually on the slab of where there used to be a house. So, they didn't make a "tent city". Most of the people here have enough land to put up the tent and rebuild when they have the resources.... missed being at worship Sunday.

  3. Hi Billy,

I was wondering, MRE/BLT? But I found this on Google:MREs are life savers. There is no doubt of this. The pouches of meals ready to eat (MRE) are packed with a variety of foods. They have been used by the different branches of the service. The Space Program in the United States has used them and more recently they were used by FEMA for survivors of hurricanes.

Military families probably Know about them. The photos are really helping us follow along. Your post about Sunday Worship was awesome. I understand why your wearing the skirt but really Billy...Pictured in it. Could you bring it home and wear it for the congregation when you give us the Mission report?? Sunday at Church was indeed exciting as well. Pastor Mike sure stands on Solid Ground. Praise GOD. Brother Don, Sara & the kid's came over after Church for some food & Fellowship. I had to leave but the kid's played and Tonya & Sara kept each other company. Man, your missing some great stuff on Leviticus law with Steve. FYI Kobe hit a duce with 3 sec. left to lift the Lakers over the Celts in Bean town 90-89. Kurt Warner announced his retirement last Friday. Really! Proof...Your wife is no longer a Cardinals Fan. We miss you and appreciate very much your Heart. I would like to learn more about how items get to the island. Can you get some pictures of the huge cargo/barge/ferry ships. Have you been to the port? Are there Pirate sightings? Be safe and continue to Spread the GOOD NEWS.
